Marian, I was at those meetings and they were pretty wild. We could use some of that level of dissent all right. Let me know if you would like to organize something. I'll be glad to help. I'm in the phone book.

The answers are all "no". There hasn't been any meaningful movement this year by the board, in the right direction. We are still suffering from the aftermath of Hurricane Vicki's storm. The school board is as effective as FEMA.

I recently read something about Ron Herndon and how he and his fellow activists "stomped on tables, screamed for justice for black kids, and shut the meetings down." The meeting was a school board meeting. This and a couple of school boycotts resulted in busing being stopped. http://wweek.com/story.php?story=5720

I think this type of heavily organized movement with a sprinkling of dramatic moves will start getting attention these issues deserve and force the school board to at least pay attention. But I wonder if enough of our citizens care enough to participate to the level required to make this happen.

I live in zone 2 (David Wynde's seat), which is up in 2011.

Zone 4 is yours, Buel's, and Nancy Smith's to fight over. ;)

(And whoever Stand for Children and PSF decide to run.)

Yes, nice summary.

I'll be interested in seeing what comes of the facilities review and if a bond is floated for remodeling or new construction. If I remember correctly they were going to focus on elementary and middle schools.

On the Jefferson front: It'll be interesting to see if that band program really does happen next year.

Nice summary, by the way.
