…we’re back!

The power outage that shut down BESC also shut down the company that provides critical services (DNS) for this site. Things appear to be running smoothly at the moment, though I have not had a chance to catch up on e-mail.

Actually, it’s not a company. DNS stands for domain name service. It’s software that tells the internet where web sites and stuff are located.

  2. Comment from Steve Rawley:

Yes, the company than provides our DNS was affected by the power outage. (I guess I can see how that sentence could be misread.)

  3. Comment from Carrie Adams:

    Doesn’t matter. You’re back!

  4. Comment from Steve Rawley:

Yeah, and actually, it’s way more complicated… it’s the company that provisions our IP address that was down. Our DNS is actually hosted in France…. Neither our Web servers nor our name servers ever went down, but I need to have some strong words with (ahem) somebody who just cashed a check for another year’s worth of “services!”
