7:05 am

News over the holiday weekend that the district and teachers has many wondering: how did the two sides, so far apart for so long, suddenly reach agreement? Details of the deal are confidential until it is presented to teachers. Comments, speculation, insider leaks, etc., are all welcome here!

(I’ll keep the ticker up until teachers ratify a new contract.)

  1. Comment from Susan:

I was relieved to read the news about a tentative settlement – especially in light of the mini-campaign Trudy Sargent seemed to be waging to increase anti-teacher sentiment. I am hoping the settlement helps gain back the goodwill lost between the district administrators, teachers and parents over the last 595 days (yes, Steve – keep on tickin!).

  2. Comment from HS teacher:

From an authority, it turns out that Carole herself called PAT negotiators and they (Carole, a PPS attorney and 2 PAT negotiators) spent Saturday working out the details. It is said that the contract terms are ‘fair’. Teachers will vote later this week. That’s all there is to report.

  3. Comment from Zarwen:

If this is a reflection of her faith in the PPS bargaining team, then I wonder what took her so long?

  4. Comment from Whitebuffalo:

Terms to be disclosed to teachers on the 22nd. Vote to ratify by secret ballot on 23rd.

  5. Comment from Rebecca:

Tentative agreement will be presented to Building Representatives and Bargaining Organizers on the 22nd. Most will present the tentative agreement on the 23rd to their staffs, and PAT members will have the opportunity to vote by Friday, February 26th.

I haven’t heard any leaks tonight, but sounds like we’ll know most or all by tomorrow!
