Run Sonja, run!

6:25 pm

Zone five is shaping up to be a dud.

First, it was Vicki Phillips’ number one fan Scott Bailey. Now it’s Portland Business Alliance’s Pam Knowles.

I’ve been critical of Sonja Henning, but now I’m hoping like hell she runs for re-election. Run, Sonja, run!

  1. Comment from Anne T.:

That’s your solution? I think we can do far better than that.

  2. Comment from Steve Rawley:

It’s definitely not a “solution,” but in a 3-way race between the PBA, a Vicki Phillips apologist and Sonja, I’ll take Sonja. At least she took a principled stand against the K-8 reconfiguration, which has turned out to be a disaster for our poorest students and our budget.

If you know somebody who’s willing to run, I’m all ears. They’ve got about a month to raise a boatload of cash and make their name known as somebody both more qualified and acceptable than two well-funded establishment candidates and possibly and incumbent.

  3. Comment from lakeithae:

If I win the lottery or inherit a large amount of cash,I will run. Unfortunately, it doesn’t look like much is going to change in PPS anytime real soon. Even then, it would likely be extremely hard to defeat the establishment candidates.

  4. Comment from change seeker:

Michelle Schultz ran her campaign on a shoe string budget, and almost beat an incumbent. Maybe you should go for it Lakeitha. I would definitely vote for you, and even if you don’t run I’ll vote for you as a write-in candidate over the other three choices.

  5. Comment from Terry:

The way I see it, Lakeitha, the “establishment” candidates will split the reactionary vote. You, the reform candidate, could easily slip in with a plurality of the vote regardless of how much money you raise.

Of course, much is dependent on running an effective grassroots campaign with the ‘official’ support of PPS Equity.

    What do you say, Steve?

You can count on my support for sure. No way I’d vote for Bailey, Knowles, or Sonja (assuming she files.)

  6. Comment from Steve Rawley:

Terry, I’m with you 100%. The “Draft Lakeitha” movement has officially begun!
